    Torque Wrench.

Just been using me new..(cheap ? ..£30) Torque wrench.

PROBLEM: Everything in Haynes is in Nm....

    Guess what I've got..

    YUP !!!!! Ft/lb

    ...........Kg/m

    NO Nm......ANYWAY......

    There's a crude conversion table with it...So I've been dividing Nm's by

1.356 (or 1.536....not near it at the mo' ) to give me the correct Ft/lbs.

I just want to double check with more competent people on here that I'm

    right......consequences too much to risk.

If I'm right I'll fill in a few more examples in the table so I don't have to

    keep calculating.

Just got back from Redhill with full on Gnarlies fitted + new tubes ...heavy

duty front...didn't have HD rear...Should I slime them? ....Took 'em

loose so I could clean 'em and have a poke around while they're off...bit

of hammerite on frame and stuff.....anything else I should do while it's up

    on the "short plank"

Coool! Did you go for the TKC's then?

You'll have fun getting used to the feeling of "falling" into corners, but half an hours ride just trusting them and you'll be loving it and using that feeling to your advantage.

Urrrm I'm not really Mr Technical, but I'd probably take the opportunity to give everything a good clean and lube up, if it's anything like mine then it'll all be really dry. Grease up your spindles (Ooooh Matron!) and maybe drop the oil and filter while you're at it.

    Re: Torque Wrench.

I put all the most used torque settings, valve gaps, sparkplug numbers, oil capacities and tyre pressures on a few little cards which are laminated, hole punched and hang on the same hook in the garage as my 17mm spanners. I have the ones for my bikes and car on the same ring. As you can see they are pretty grimy and have been well used. The front card for the AT set dates back to my first RD04. As you can see I can't spell crankcase.

It's rare I get a manual out to look for torque settings. The reason some torques are in Newton metres and some in foot pounds is because I use different torque wrenches for different things and they are oin different units.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!
