How do you stick a heated grip to the throttle body?

I thought I was getting big problems with my TA t'other day - response was sluggish top speed about 75 and up a couple of hills it was getting slower and slower - until I noticed the wires for the heated grip was twisted round the throttle only allowing about 1/2 throttle. The grip was slipping round the throttle body. It was an easy fix initially - just shut the throttle and twist it back. At home I tried to hold it in place with a cable tie to ensure the rubber gripped the body but it still slips, so looks like I will have to re-glue. I had to do this this last summer as well when it was really hot and I think used Bostick or similar then.

So, a long intro to a short question. What sort of glue does any one else use and does anyone else get the same problem.

Oh, the grips are Oxford heated grips. The left hand grip is fine and doesn't move at all.

the glue that came with my grips is standard superglue, tip, heat the grips up apply glue to handlebar and then slide on and tap end with hammer.

Some use superglue, others use tape. They both have weaknesses. Superglue when it gives way normally just abruptly shears, where as the tape is a more gradual slip.

If trying the glue then clean the surface first with a bit of solvent then make sure that the solvent is either evaporated off or cleaned using a clean paper towel. Otherwise you're just asking for the glue to fail.

I haven't done this for while but the last time I did I used hairpsray (not mine... ) and it worked very well.

I use hair-spray on my mountian bike but its not strong/waterproof enough for the motorised version. I just stuck with (he he, geddit, eh?) the super glue my grips came with as lock-wiring was out for obvious reasons. Must say though that the guy before me had used 'Evo-Stik' * and it had held up very well...........

    * Other PVC/Solvent based glues are available.

Araldite worked well on the 'Rex when the original gave way, (the throttle grip always was a bit slack on the throttle tube)

Re: How do you stick a heated grip to the throttle body?

Thanks guys, I use hairspray on mountain bike, but it wouldn't be enough on a throttle, I think Superglue is too brittle, and Araldite too permenant. Evo Stick and the like are best when used as impact adhesive.

So I will have a trip to a B&Q superstore to see what my options are. Rubber solution glue might work. Meanwhile its gone back to a useable state

Renthal Grip Glue - it's a rubbery concoction that does the job beautifully. Highly recommended.

Probably an expensive name for a small amount of Evostik

Austin, try 3M Spraymount or 3M Displaymount.

They aid fitting by providing some initial lubrication and then stick like the proverbial when dry. Usually available from stationers or graphic supplies outlets. Displaymount will provide a firmer bond but I've used Spraymount ('cos that's what's lying around the studio) successfully too.
