    NOT strictly AT...Motocross Boots

Right, hopefully you're all ready to add to my confused choice!

There appear to be quite a few Motocross boot bargains on eBay at the moment, but I am wholeheartedly aware of the following rules...

    1) YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!

    2) YOU PAY FOR BIG NAMES!

So, with both of the contradictory rules in mind, I find myself completely stumped.

So, what are you wearing? How do you rate them? Is the sizing accurate, or do they come out big/small? (important when you buy of Fleebay) How much did you pay? Any recommendations on places to buy?

All this is prompted by the onset of winter (I'm wearing sunglasses today!!), the fact that all you off-road Gods at the National wore them, and the fact that my mate broke his foot when he dropped his KTM 990adv on his foot a few weeks ago.

    So, whattya got?

I've moved this to chatter, I reckon more people will see it that way.

At the moment I'm using some boots with Fly Racing written on the front. I bought them for about 90 quid at the BMF show about 4 years ago. I've just had them resoled. They are size 8 as am I and I only wear normal socks plus goretex socks when wearing them. Very comfortable when worn in hence the resole. Incidentally, cheap surplus goretex socks are miles warmer than a big thick pair of traditional bike socks, not had cold feet for at leat 12 years now.

I tend to use a donated (god bless my neighbour) pair of Alpinestars when doing proper offroading so as not to ruin the pair I go to work in every day. They are still going strong although if I don't wear them for a while after a soaking then they can be hard to get on initially.
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

I was in the same situation myself and spoke to my line manager who used to race motocross. He has told me stories of guys using cheap boots and i decided to that you get what you pay for. Luckly for me he then decided to sell me his Tech 8's for £50 so i'm happy! Its up to you. At the time i also saw a program about air ambulance. Some guy goes trail riding with riggers boots on and comes off, basically severing his foot off! That made my mind up even without my managers stories.

I swear by Alpinestars boots, comfiest by far, built to last too. Me and my mates all race MX and Enduros and do some fairly serious off roading, most of us wear Alpinestars. Had mine for many years now and they look like lasting many more. The only trouble is that big MX type boots don`t always fit easily under the gear lever on non-MX/Enduro bikes. Took me a few adjustments to be able to shift properly when I first wore them on my new @.

I started with some Gaerne Balance Trials boots and they are very nice, one broken ankle down and I'm now going for the maximum armour approach and bought a pair of Sidi Crossfire's, I'll never wear anything else.
The crossfires are pretty easy to walk in with the double pivots and they are broken in after the first ride and everything is replaceable, sizing is spot on same as my Gaerne and Alpinestars, they aren't cheap but having to sit at home with a broken ankle cost alot more.

I remember there was a thread before about "what do you wear when riding?" and I put in that I wore steel toe capped redwing rig boots. Someone pointed out the danger, as you mentioned above, so I bit the bullet and bought a pair of SIDI proper bike boots. (Most of the MotoX racers use them here for lack of anything else available, about US$75/UKP40) They're comfy and waterproof, internal zip to about 3 inches above the ankle, with outer velcro, adjustable for different leg diameters, from half down the foot to all the way up the shin. As the reply above says, maximum armour, so very confidence boosting. Unfortunately, being waterproof, there's not much breathing, so when I take them off in summer heat here, I can be accurately located by smell rather than sight.

I've got a pair of Sidi Flexforce boots with the replacable sole. Comfy and I like the replacable sole as I don't have to worry about wearing out the sole when I wear the boots every day. You might also want to have a look at

OK you lot, Thanks for all your input.

I'm thinking Alpinestars...I'm now thinking Tech 6...MOST IMPORTANTLY, I'm thinking HOW ACCURATE IS THE SIZING?????
