Revs dropping when steering hard right

Thought i'd post this here to see if anyone else has had this problem.
When i come to parking i turn the bars fully to the right and start waddling backwards, at this point the revs drop, not just a bit either, i have stalled it a couple of times through lack of idle revs.
I thought it may be due to the clutch lever so i went for neutral, same problem, i have to blip the throttle when reversing with full right lock
It's a recent problem, and quite annoying

    Any ideas??

    Cheers

If you take your hand off the throttle does it still happen ??

If not then it's your wrist - not limp enough - !!!

If it still does then it's cable related - try adjusting the bottom stop on the carb throttle.

My hand is still on the grip but the throttle is not being pulled, are you refering to the idle screw?

I would put my house on it being the throttle cables. It could be one of these:The outer is damaged and is no longer moving smoothly with the bars - pulls/pushes the inner and causes the variation in tickover;the throttle cable is tight in anything other than a hard right turn and therefore the throttle stop in the carbs is in effect hanging on the cable. A hard right puts some slack in the cable, causes the the throttle stop to move back/forward and tick over to reduce; or as you turn you are pushing the cable back against the throttle stop on the carbs and taking out a bit of slack.Could also be a electric short somewhere caused by movement in the bars affecting the ignition circuit/kill switch or somewhere.Check the cable outer for damage and follow its route as you turn the bars to see where it goes tight. Then either adjust to give more/less slack as appropriate, re-route it, lube it up or replace the cable altogether.

Okay, cheers for that Austin, pardon my ignorance but i thought the idle adjustment screw pretty much made sure that the throttle doesn't go below the set level of revs, I thought that just for arguments sake, you could remove the throttle cable altogether and still have idle revs, not the case?

Throttle cables?? I doubt it as the idle setting shouldn;t allow the carbs to go below whatever they're set too..unless it's totally set up wrong like you've set the idle screw all the way in and using the tension of the cable to set idle.

My bet would be on Choke cable (if handlebar mounted) or a break in the wiring near the headstock.

Choke cable eh? yeah it is bar mounted and is on the left, if the bars are turned right then this may tighten that cable, Hmmm, what sort of electrical connection could it be?, surely if the kill was being engaged through a short, it would just cut out immediately?

The throttle stop is set ok as i can see the cable go slightly slack around the disc when the throttle grip is released.
Cheers Kymmy, i'll check the choke tonight when i get away from work.

Remember all the power is put through the ignition switch and then distributed to the rest of the bike. Broken/corroded cables arn't always purely OPEN or SHORT and can display varying degree's of resistance.

I think you may be on the right track with the choke, started it from cold about an hour ago, turned full lock, didn't do it, suppose it wouldn't if it needs choke and that's what coming on.

Got home 45 mins later and turned full lock again to park, bike started shutting down,
Parked it moved the choke cable sleeve down and away from the bars, same thing, dropped revs.

Thinking about it, it was recently (2 months ago) serviced, do you reckon it may have been tightened?

If so, i'll find a way of slacking it off a touch.

Thanks alot for the insight there Kymmy.

Austin, I'll let you stay in your house rent free mate

Thanks to you all for your help

BTW, does anyone know how to adjust the choke cable on a transalp?

Mine does (Did? Haven't checked for ages...) the same and I instantly thought the culprit was the choke.
