Oxford heated grips - new switch

I was talking to a techie guy on the Oxford stand atteh NEC about the new switch I had ordered for my heated grips. I asked if it was true that they auto-turned off after a period if the engine wasn't running. Its true. They have a sensor to detect when voltage drops below 11.5v and then switches off. Even better if when you turn them on the lights flash at you to warn if the battery is near 11.5volts.

    New switch fitted this weekend

Yes I bought a set with the new style switch just after they were released. It's a good improvement over the old one because with the low voltage protection I didn't need to wire up a relay. Plenty warm enough too, the lowest setting is normally enough for me!

oh, forgot to say he told me the grips MUST be wired direct to the battery as a relay could reduce the voltage too much so that they either never turn on or turn off prematurely!!!

Re: Oxford heated grips - new switch

I've had the new switch fitter for some time now and I have to say I preferred the old one.

The switch stayed switched on when the bike was off, and so came back on when the bike was started. It was easier to operate with a gloved hand whilst riding, and I don't think that the plastic switch cover will last that long. It's the same kind of membrane that they used to put on remote controls, which have all peeled in my house.

    Bah humbug!

Errrr, mine are through a relay and work just fine, soooo, they seem to work both ways

Got mine fitted through a relay as I didn't trust the switch to turn off and I know I'll leave them on. They are working fine and toasty.

the new style switch/controller works well but the buttons are an arse with gloves on. Just have to kinda mash your finger in the general area and wait to see if the light comes on!
