    Exhausts

    Hello

bit of a technical one this so have put it here as well as in the Vara section!

can the vara run with only one exhausts - they are initially linked at the bottom then split off!

is this only cosmetic or necessary??

i am thinking of binning one can off and mounting some storage under there instead!

is this gonna cause any running issues??

    ideas?

    thanks folks

    Z

    Re: Exhausts

yeah i remember that - it's one of the things that got me thinking!!

i need to know if it will affect the running or not and if it actually needs the two cans or were they just asthetic! if it's just for the looks then it will be binned off!

jenna?, kymmy? you two are normally in the know about such issues!!???

If the bike was designed to run with two cans then you'd only be able to run successfully with one if that one was capable of flowing as much gas as two standard ones. So you'd be looking for something aftermarket and probably custom built by Zorstec or similar. And it would be either big (thinking of litre V-twins with a single can all that springs to mind is certain models of RSV Mille - have you seen the size of that can?!) or noisy because within a certain size constraint allowing more flow generally means reducing the amount of wadding/baffling.

Going for a single can with less restriction is likely to mean an increase in volume (which may or may not bother you, but probably would bother an MoT tester) - I believe most big V-twins use twin cans as the only satisfactory way to pass noise tests despite the weight penalty - they have to flow twice as much gas per power stroke as a 4-cylinder litre bike while keeping within the same noise levels. For example SV650/DL 650 with single can, DV1000/DL1000 with twin cans.

    But anything is possible.....
