    Recommend Braided Hoses

    Seasons Greetings

Originally put this question on the Transalp thread (for that is what I have), but the question I suppose is more general.

Can any of you kind people recommend a manufacturer/supplier of Stainless Braided Brake Lines? If I remember correctly, I fitted Goodridge hoses to a (whisper it quietly) GPz 550 I had years ago and I had to return one of the lines to be re-made. I cannot remember why now.

Anyway, there's a place not far from me that is the Ireland contact for HEL Brake Lines - does anyone have any comments good or bad?

    Cheers

i put goodridge brake and clutch hoses on my firestorm they worked well gave more feel than the rubber hoses and never gave me any problems. At the NEC last year i bought a set of earls braided hoses for my xr400 and they're very good. CAn't tell if there's any difference especially seeing the two factories are next door to each other nd they supply each other parts, so i found out at a later date

    Re: Recommend Braided Hoses

Most stock rubber hoses only have a shelf life of just 3 years after this they tend to expand under pressure which reduces the amount of force transmitted through to the pads.

think at the end of the day the performance between any PTFE/Stainless steel braid manufacture is pretty well negligible thanks to the high stock performance of all the manufactures in the first place (high performance pipe being used in a low performance application).. And as Jason says most the raw castings for the fittings are made by just one company (fishers) so again no big advantages there.

few years back goodridge was the 'hyped' name to buy but thats now the crown owned by HEL so i guess at the end of the day its the price that decides the best buy!

We have over the years fitted nearly all them at some time, these days we buy in the hose and fittings and make our own, no great cost saving but means you get to put the hoses exactly where you want rather than the shortest route as most manufactures do.

When I fitted an 1150 front end to one of my 1100GS`s I got custom hoses made for me by HEL.

    Excellent service and top quality.

However, someone on here was raving about another place a while ago....I`m not sure if it got 'stickied' or placed in another forum on here somewhere ??

    EDIT....found it.....Brake Pipes in Telford

to give you some idea on this guys price.

we a kit for the XTZ,works out roughly as 1m length (stainless steel braided PTFE hose, aircraft grade), Bzp Banjo 'eye' at each end (no bolt!) and 4 copper washers is £9.50.. we also do a poly sleeve in Green, yellow, Purple, Red, Grey, Blue, White and black for £2 extra per meter of hose.

All our fittings are compression type so re usable and 'field' repairable unlike the cheaper 'crimped' on hoses.
