What is everyone's preference for oil and air filters? I've just put a Champion oil filter on my @.
Do you tend to use Honda manufactured filters or after market pattern ones?

As for filters you'll find that most filters are made by the same company and just repackaged/badged per brand. Oil is another matter as there's so much to choose from, as long as you have the correct grade and don;t mix synth/non-synth (as it turns it into sludge) then you should be fine. though there is some arguement about using non-bike oils in bikes as the additives normally don;t work well with wet clutches.

I use pattern filters, can't remember the last brand I used but it wasn't really any cheaper than the honda oem. I tend to use motul semi synth (and only bike specific) for no other reason than I used the two stroke version for years and never had to replace main bearings, rings or pistons when all around me my contemporaries on similar bikes were pushing them. Not very logical but ........![]()
Hi Annette
I normally use genuine oil filters, I have installed a K&N air filter which is expensive to buy approx£45 main advantage is never having to replace. just clean& re-oil.
I have used Honda and also Champion filters and use a good quality semi-synthetic oil, Mal how is the K&N performing and did you have to rejet your bike I am still thinking about trying one on my 600
BIG D.
I'll only use Honda and HiFlo (heard Hiflo make the K&N one).
I bunch Fram, Champion and Filtex altogether at the bottom end of the quality scale.
This guy had a look at how different filters are constructed, there is a surpising difference between the brands.

Hello Don,
No you don't have to re-jet, only difference I noticed after fitting was slight increase in induction noise
Thanks for the info Mal I think I will try a K&N air filter I also found Wheelybins Item interesting about oil filters.
BIG D.
AT's tend to run slightly rich so adding a K&N airfilter probably won;t do any harm. Though as with any fuel/air/exhaust change to any bike I would for the week or two afterwards keep an eye on the plug color as it's the best guide (without the need for a dyno and gas analyser) as to what the mixture is like
http://www.nightrider.com/biketech/spkplghnbook.htm has a good guide to plug colors but there are lots more websites about that have the same info.
