    Security Screw Garmin Zumo

Hi everyone has anyone replaced the security screw on the bike mount. I picked my @ up last night after getting some work done on it . I fitted the Zumo in the bike mount and had to stop for fuel on the way , I filled the tank and went to remove the Zumo to go into the garage to pay and the mount would not release " the Security Screw" had tightened on it,s own . Does this always happen ,Of course the tool was in the house so has anyone changed the screw to a screw you could use with your fingers as it would be better suited to me , Or has anyone removed the screw alltogether .I will not be riding off road just road work so it would be normal conditions and less likley to spring open on it,s own .Any info would be great.Francis

    Re: Security Screw Garmin Zumo

    Hi Francis.
I have removed the screw altogether it became a pain in the a$$ locking its self in all the time
and the tool to remove it when on a keyring looses its protective cover from the vibrations while the bike is moving

however there is a more suitable "fix"at http://www.zumoforums.com/ sorry cant find direct link to post about it now but they have all the answers for your zumo questions there .SOMEONE HAS MADE A MORE USER FRIENDLY KEY/SCREW,it has no real use as a security device anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know touratech.de have a couple of security mounts developed but pricey

    Hope this helps,

    Tony K

    Re: Security Screw Garmin Zumo

theres already a thread about this on here somewhere, and i think one on HuBB too, so there must be a problem with them. either a dodgy batch or simply just a poor design.
please take notice garmin! (yeah, pigs might fly......why should they care? they already got your £350+)

P.S. please forgive my ignorance, but a thumbscrew isnt a very good 'security' device, is it?
or is it to stop the zumo falling out of the mount? then its not a very good mount, is it?

im not dissing the zumo i think its good, but it sounds like the mount dept at garmin are a bunch of dogstars

The standard security screw will wind in all by itself by combining the gifts of gravity and vibration. You need to carry the "key" screw driver with you. I keep mine in my jacket pocket.

The mount will stay closed without any screw (99.9999999999% of the time). The after-market thumb screw just adds an extra safeguard to prevent your expensive Zumo from dropping off when riding down the motorway.
