    Road/ OS GPS

Not being amazingly technically minded and taking most things on face value and not playing with them too much is there a way of putting OS mapping on the likes of TomTom Riders or Zumos or can anyone recommend a GPS unit that will do both....

    Cheers

OS style maps aren't "routable", which means a sat nav can't guide you to your destination using an OS map. (In the industry an OS map is known as a raster map and sat navs need vector maps.) You could use an OS map only to help identify where you are.

Some GPS devices can accept OS maps. You need one that can [edit] accept data from [/edit] software like Memory Map or Fugawi. Some of the trekking-style devices like the eTrex Venture can do this and most PDAs can too. I'm fairly certain the Zumo can't (but would love to be proven wrong!) Garmin sell their own topographical map (it's pricey). I don't know about the TT Rider but again I wouldn't hold out too much hope.

Bear in mind that OS maps are expensive and you often get only part of the UK with each one.

I guess the first thing to clarify is, why would you want an OS map on a bike sat nav? If it's for off-road use, then you'll need a trekking-style device.

The Road Angel 7000 Sat Nav can have OS maps loaded on using Memory Map. I have no experience with this device though! And I'm pretty sure you either have the OS mapping or routing, not both simultaneously. I maybe wrong though.

As Dee Duble Yuh says OS mapping can work out quite expensive, I think using Memory Map it would work out around £1000 for the whole of the UK.

However one of the devices I do use is a PDA (Mio p550) running TomTom 6, and with a swap of the SD card it runs Memory Map.

I wouldn't bother with Garmin's Topo, very little detail in comparison with OS mapping. Running Topo on my Garmin 2610 it looks even worse than the image below!!
