    Givi Monokey Pannier Rack Fittings

    Hi All,

I'm seriously considering making a set of panniers like the ones in this tutorial.

My @ has Givi Monokey racks fitted and I was thinking I'd try to make the panniers hook onto these brackets but I have never seen how the panniers connect to these brackets.

If someone has Givi Monokey panniers and some spare time, could you please post up some detailed pictures of the fittings and how they connect up?

If anyone has any suggestions about how I could make brackets for the rack then that'd be great too

    Cheers,
    Slanty

Touratech sell pannier mount brackets which will work on your Givi rack. However they will set you back around £38 plus postage for each pannier!

Rather than pay Touratech, I decided to do it:

I made my own brackets to fit a Givi rack out of some scrap bits that I found lying around at work plus about £4 on stainless bolts.

First I cut out a piece of marine ply (roughly the same thickness as the width of the rack tube - 15mm I think) to the shape of the inside of the frame. Then I gave it some coats of Yacht varnish and left it to dry. Then I fixed it to the back of the pannier with 5 bolts - I put a thin steel plate on the inside of the pannier too for extra strength.

I attatched an aluminium plate onto the bottom of the wood which forms the bottom part of the bracket. I had to shim this out slightly to ensure a snug fit. The two top brackets can be tightened/loosened using wing nuts on the inside of the pannier to mount or remove it.

That's probably as clear as mud so here are the pictures.

    Hope this helps

    Hey 1gear1brake,

That's exactly the kind of thing I was looking for

    Thanks a million mate!

When I'm making them I may drop you a couple of questions if that's ok.

    Thanks again

This guy used some U channel to go over the top rail. He'd used a spring-loaded eyebolt but your rack may already have a tab protruding upwards. Cut a slot in the U channel so it goes straight over! You'll then need some another U channel or a pair of pucks for the lower part of the case.
