Unhappy big feet & gear lever, help please.

the good news is, i have just bought a new pair of boots which are comfy and look great.

however, my problem is the boots are big and they aren't too flexible, which means that changing up a gear is a pain in the @rse, and it makes the rear breaking not quite as responsive as when wearing normal boots.

Im useless at any sort of mechanics (really really useless), although i have come up with 2 ideas:

1). either lower the each peg by an about 15mm, which would allow my boot to fit under the gear lever easier and be able to shift up without straining.

2). the seconded solution may be to raise the gear lever and rear break lever slightly higher which would also allow me to change gear with ease and also rear break with more ease.

are either of my ideas feasible???, and do-able for my level of mechanical experience?? (piss-easy basically),
and also if anyone has had this problem, and has an alternative solution could they let me know.

any help would be really appreciated.

    will!

The gear lever should be easy, just undo the pinch bolt, remove it, then slide the gear lever off the splines and refit it one spline further round. Try it for size with your boots and if happy refit and tighten the pinch bolt.

Depending on your bike, there should be an adjuster for the rear brake lever. The AT has a lock nut and a threaded rod, loosen the lock nut then use a spanner to turn the threaded rod by it's hexagon shaped part. It's imediately obvious as you turn which way the lever is going. When happy you just retighten the lock nut.

Does your brake lever look like this?If so, it's an adjustable one see the hex part of the threaded bolt? .
