Simple fix for the charging problem (unless you've already burned out your contacts) is to buy the Touratech TomTom mount. Solved my charging woes instantly. Pricey yes, but cheaper than shelling out for a RIDER 2.

I've not had any bother (as yet) with my on/off button in the 2 years I've had it, but if you update to the latest version of the Firmware on the Rider then it'll power up and down automatically when you turn the bike key...along with a host of other groovy stuff they've added.

The RIDER 2 ships with a RAM mount, but if you make enough noise to TomTom Customer Services about your "unfit for purpose" Rider 1 mount they will send you a RIDER 2 mounting kit for free

Failing that, a tightly wrapped elastic band or two will hold the unit firmly enough in the cradle for it to charge until you get a new mount sorted - once again unless you've already burned out your contacts, in which case a judiciously applied small blob of solder onto each one should help.
