    HISS problem?

My FI Varadero (VA4) wouldn't start today and after the usual checking of the kill switch and choke being in the correct setting still no go. The engine cranked over and fuel was getting through as I could smell it but not so much as a single hint of starting.

After a few minutes it eventually started to catch on one cylinder and started (I think it caught on one as it was flooded by then) 3 or 4 subsequent starts have been back to normal.

Anyway my question is this. Could this be a HISS problem? The bike always starts on the first turn or two of the crank and has never disgraced itself before so I can only think it misread the chip in the key or similar. Should I have looked out for any specific lights on the dash and does the HISS light stay on or flash if the key is not recognised? I must admit it was sunny and I didn't really look at the HISS light but if it were to do it again anything I should look out for.

As I say it all seems to be OK now but any help working out what to do if it happens again would be appreciated.

I very much doubt it unless there was another 'chipped' key nearby which could have interfeared.

Keep an eye on the HISS light in future, it goes out a couple of seconds after the ignition is turned on - if the key is recognized, I'm sure you would have noticed it if it had stayed on ie not recognized the key.

The HISS light will not come on if the key is not recognised, and the engine will not turn over as the HISS will not enable the ignition.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

If the key isn't recognized, the CDI cuts the ignition not the starter.
