    Chain question

Going to fit new chain and sprockets on my blade and I assume that there is a tool of some description for fitting the links on the new chain. What is it?

Please remember the last time I fitted a chain they were still using split U links. It's been a while

Nowadays the plate you used to just push on with your fingers needs a press tool to get it onto the pins. It goes on so tight you could probably ride the bike slowly without even riveting the ends of the rivet link.

3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

....or improvise with a small socket & g clamp to work the side plate on & use a couple of hammers (heavy one behind the pin) to gently peen the rivet over. The proper tool is best but whatever method you use don't rivet it too much or you'll get a tight spot.

the right tool makes the job a lot easier and quicker, and you can trust the chain.

they can be expensive but you only have to buy it once and keep it forever.
