From my days doing trials lights weren't needed for the MOT. If they were fitted they had to work but there was no requirement to have them fitted. If I remember correctly all you really needed were a brake light, horn (squeezy bulb hooter was ok), speedo (pushbike speedo OK) , numberplate and mudguards.

I'm pretty sure a kill switch of some form was needed but then we had a push switch on the bars as the only way to kill the engine and no ignition key.

No doubt sound regs etc will come into it now but that's just a sign of the times and someone will be along to give you this century's regulations.

As Boris said, you don't need lights of any sort. I run a ZXR750 with no lights at all, it has what they call a "daytime MOT".

All I needed for the MOT was a working speedo, number plate, horn and rear reflector and of course number plate.

I think you will need a chain guard also.

Sorry, can't help with the spark plug.

I am doing the same with a KX250 at the moment just had the frame powder coated and just needs putting the engine it should be fun...

You will want to drop the rear sprocket, this will decrease acceleration whilst increasing top end speed. This will stop you revving the nuts of the engine whilst on the road. Difficult to say what sprockets you will need on your bike but I would suggest dropping 2 off the rear to start with maybe increasing the front by 1.

You used to able to get dyno kits to run the lights and horn. You may also wish to stiffen up the suspension for the road to stop it diving into corners.

If you are going to use this on a daily basis it could prove to be pain to run, decokes will be a regular chore due to running at sustained higher revs and maybe you should think of a trail bike like a DRZ

    Re: Making Cr125 Road legal

i dont know if you have heard of it but apparently theres a spark plug that burns all that stuff off so you dont have to decoke it its ment to be around £25 but i have no idea what its called.

and i think im going to go for 48 rear and 15 front sprockets
as too the lighting i was gunna get a 12v battery and put it in the airbox bit and make a wiring loom from scratch

You don't need very much to get a mot. A day time mot can be got with no lights, as it's an off road bike you don't need a speedometer, my local mot shop told me a while ago you could just put an hour counter on it or get a push bike speedo unit for a few quid and that would make it legal for an mot

    Re: Making Cr125 Road legal

why not just sell it and buy a crm125? save loads of hastle! ive heard about a few people doing this and then regretted it for the following:
tyres last 2mins due to the power delivery of the motor
    engine rebuilds every 2mins
    very large thirst for petrol!

Hi again ive got all the parts im going to be using

the only problem ive had was wiring the headlight ti the switch
i bought a DRC ez wiring loom but what ever i do i cannot seem to make the headlight work ive got blinkers and tailight going good and the horn .
