I am replacing the 35-35W headlight on my XR400 with the KMX 200 55/60W set-up. I am hoping my alternator will cope.

Although its very expensive, if the 55/60 does not work out a HID is an alternative. I say this based on the impression that HIDs draw fewer wats than a 55/60W halogen.

Am I correct and if so what is the wattage needed for a HID to run?
