    Fork seal replacement

I have acquired a 2003 honda clr125 and noticed that the fork seals are leaking and need replacement.
I have removed the forks from the bike, taken off the top cap, drained the oil, removed the bottom allen bolt, removed the damper rod
After looking a varoius articles I understand that the sael are removed by using the stanchion to tap out the seal.
However I can get the thing to shift, I have tried using boiling water but withou any success.
Could anybody advise if there is technique to removing the seal because I am now out of ideas

changed my seal on the RD01, 43mm fork tubes, you have to be quite rough, they say tap, but I found I really had to use the fork tube as a slide hammer.. push the tube in, all the way, then pull it up as hard and fast as you are able, I had the lower frolk keg in a work mate..

hope the helps oh and make sure the area around you is free of sharp object and small children, cos when it lets go .. you go too

or is that small objects and sharp children....????

    Re: Fork seal replacement

There is usually a circlip / retaining clip holding the oil seal in place then the dust seal is pushed into position over this on most forks.
Have you prised the dust seal out, so you can see the oil seal / clip ? the clip must be removed.
I have no experience of your particular model, this is just the general set-up.

Oh, and welcome to the site

    Re: Fork seal replacement

    thanks for the advice

I have tried clamping the fork in a vice hitting the seal very hard, but without success, there seems to be a metallic noise rather than a rubber noise. is there something I have missed ?
I though of tapping the top cap and putting a air valve anr then using air pressure to push out the seal

    Thanks

NO NO NO sure way to kill your self!!! dont use compressed air!!

sounds like your tapping it in??

the seal is tapped out from below!!

as the fork extends the lower fork bush hits the seal, it is the this bush the drives the seal out from below, hold the lower fork leg in the vice ( protect the ally with soft jaws or rags, then pull the slider outit will hit the seal, repeat as hard as you can until it comes out, the complete fork slider , bushes and seal will all come out of the lower fork leg..
