    Mobile Toolkit

I am thinking what tools to take with me when I go to Dartmoor.

End up with loads, can hardly lift it.

Any one fancy commenting on what they take on trips that they find invaluable.

I have a 650 TA, but comment others as well.

    Re: Mobile Toolkit

Most of the time somewhere under my seat is:
    The standard toolkit
    A small tin with:
    8,10,12,13,14mm sockets
    1/4" ratchet
a small selection of spare nuts, bolts, washers, metal strips, and odds and sods and stuff that crop from time to time that get chucked in there.
    some puncture patches and glue
    some spare fuses
    tube super glue
    3 small tyre levers
    A big adjustable spanner
    2 spare (old/used) spark plugs
    some insulation tape
    a roll of duck tape
    some zip ties
    a mountain bike tyre pump
    a first aid kit
some swarfega hand wipes in a zip lock bag
a small first aid kit (Aldi biker special about 18months ago)
    a small maglite torch
(probaly morre but I can't rememebr)

Overkill probably but its there, there's loads of space for it in the 'alp. I have never used most of it, but one day....

    Re: Mobile Toolkit

I'm no expert Rick, but I'm sure I remember reading a thread on Transalp tools some time back. The opinion seemed to be that you could pretty much service one with a couple of screwdrivers, 2 sizes of allen key, and a couple of spanners! Only "special" tool required is apparently the Honda spark plug tool, available from David Silver Spares if you aint already got one!

Being an ex boy scout I of course carry more than that, but it all goes in the underseat storage. Set of tools in a roll (inc spark plug tool), torch, spare fuses (must get some bulbs!), bag of ty-raps, spare hex head fasteners, electrical tape. There's still enough space for a disc lock and some room left over. Hmm, perhaps 1 or 2 spare inner tubes would be a good idea?

Tyre levers and bicycle pump stuck in where shackle lock could have gone.

I'm a big believer in Murphy's law: so if I carry all these tools, I should never need them! I think!
I'm on the Safe House List
03 TA Blue, Givi bars, centre stand, Givi Pannier racks, heated grips, MRA Vario - smooth!

    Also 4x4 with a towbar - and a trailer!

I'm with Austin on this - a good list. I also carry a few feet on electrical wire "just in case". I've seen on some adventure sites people carry rope and things to get them out of ditches etc if they get in trouble on their own.

    Re: Mobile Toolkit

oh yeah forgot the allen keys in 5mm and 3mm (something somewhere is 3mm) and some wire and spade connectors.

The Varadero has room only for the standard toolkit and that's about it. I am going to put one or 2 of these on it for tools.

I wonder if this is the difference between Varadero owners and AT/TA owners?!?!?

Or maybe we're not "proper bikers"?
