    Paddock stand?

I'm going to start stripping the engine down on my bike and I'd like to know if any of you could recommend the best way to support it whilst doing the work (no centre stand).

Welcome back from the National (I been working....)

I have a set of paddock stands,I Will only need them to put ride on in my tyres then you could borrow them if you wish.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

Thanks Stumpy but I can't do that...there's no telling how long I'll leave it sitting there...I'd better get me own....

I just need to know if that's the best way to support it for engine removal.

I have two busters catologues here if you want one let me know .
They have the paddock stands and the lifts and things may help you to decide.

    have a look here...

    http://www.xrv.org.uk/forums/mechanical-advice/23031-bike-stands-those-no-centre-stand-post233367.html

That stand is rock solid; I'd happily leave the bike on it for months. Costs about the same as a pair of conventional front + rear stands, but does a far better job, and lets you do extra stuff like take forks out. Takes about 2 minutes to get the bike on/off, which is much slower than conventional stands (maybe an issue if you want to use it every week for chain lubing; irrelevant for big jobs).

I think it's well out of the way of engine mounts for an AT (though you don't say what bike it's for?).
flat out on utterly inappropriate tackle

Just get a suitably sized box or a decent milk bottle crate, you need a hand to get it on and off, but you won't be doing it often.

Would that be in the way if I wanted to take the whole engine out ??

So I could send it to one of you to fix...

The engine will come out upward's and sideway's.

You may have to pack the bottom frame rail's up a little to clear the lowest point of the crankcase.
