    basic maintainance course

I've just enrolled on a 'basic motorcycle maintainace course' at my nearest college. I just happened to thumb through a prospectus for adult learning and i was chuffed to bits to see this.

    one evening a week, 7-9pm, £4 a night for 10 weeks,
The after that, there are 2 more levels (intermediate then advanced)

    Basic stuff is simple servicing.
Intermediate is more complex stuff like dismantling cleaning carbs / gearboxes etc
Advance stuff is as good as rebuilding a bike......

starts next week so really looking forward to it, just hope i dont get carried away and start tinkering when theres no need (there are bikes in the workshop or you can take your own)..lol

Either way, looking forward to it !.......

Good for you.. I would consider it myself if time permit.. I am OK with basics stuff.. but stripping engine can be a worry for me.. Considering that I service my car and do a lot of maintainace work myself..

Likewise, I've got on the one in Stockport but not till January 09, this term is full.
I think mine is £60 for 10 weeks.

Should make the winter weeks pass a bit quicker and may even persuade me to get a rebuild project

Where abouts is the course?I did a very basic bike maintenance course at Peoples College in Nottingham about 20 years ago that just about covered servicing your own bike.

It's run by West Notts College. Im doing at the Ashfield College, Huthwaite Road, Sutton-In-Ashfield, Notts.

The absolute bonus is the college is 10min walk from my house too !

I've never even changed oil of any engine so this will be great, i kinda know the theory but never attempted it myself.

Can't wait to get mucky in a workshop !!!!!!!!

    Re: basic maintainance course

When I first got a bike my mother made me do a handling course, the forerunner of the CBT on that course we learned the basics of how to change oils and filter and maintain the bike in a road worthy condition.
I think it should be added to the CBT.
German car test require that you can change a wheel and find your way around an engine bay ( at least it used to ) I think it should be the same over here.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE
