Question Waterproofness of Garmin Zumo Cradles

According to all of Garmins gumpf they are 100% waterproof, but I'd rather have a proper opinion. So does anyone on here have a Cradle whose connectors have failed due to water corroding them, or are they as waterproof as they say? It just looks too easy for water to get in to it to me.....

Th idea is when you remove the unit you put the little rubber cap over the connectors.

I did notice a tiny bit of blue on them the other day gave them a quick squirt and a clean up.

But you can ride in the peeing rain with no problems.

I can assure you the Garmin mounts are 100% waterproof. I had my Zumo 550 with me the other day on the South Wales Ride Out to "Hell and Back" I think that is where the slag in a bag said we were at one point. The rain was coming at you horizontaly, verticaly and any other direction you so wish to mention. The mounts connections stayed dry. The unit itself stayed bone dry internally of course and it didn't even skip a heart beat due to the torrential rain we encountered. The unit itself just required a wipe over with a damp cloth when I got home. Had I not been confident in the integrity of the unit I would have swiftly removed it and placed it in the back box.
As Whealie mentioned, you will have to protect the connectors from mild corrosion but I prevent that with just a dab of vaseline on them and always keep the connectors covered when not being used

+1 all of the above. It might be useful to wire the mount via a switch (or relay) so the power isn't on all the time. Mine is permanently powered and if I leave the bike out in the rain and forget to put the cover over the connectors, a little corrosion appears. Not a problem if you do that once or twice, but over time maybe it would damage the coating of the pins.

Or you could just remember to put the cover on the connectors!

I have a Zumo 550 and don't appear to have any problems with the cradle, the rubber flip over protector seems to do the job when the unit is not mounted.

The only problem i had with water was it getting into the unit itself (on the Longest Day no less) but Garmin replaced it with a brand new unit inside a week

Happily, I have not had to use my 550 in the wet very much, but it was happy enough during a 4hr soaking earlier this year at Motorway speeds. It coped better than my boots...
