Help The good lady is putting her foot down

I am having real trouble with the standard type ear plugs so I thought I would research getting these 'injection' type ear plugs.

The comments on this site suggest they are worth the cost and I thought if i'm going to that cost i should get them capable of tacking a radio or i-pod.

    Seems fair so far.

Mentioned this to the wife who went mental , can't hear traffic, loss of concentration etc...

Guys and girlies who use them any evidence in my support or is she right ???

In my opinion I concentrate far more when I don't have wailing wind noise around my head.

It is really good practice to protect your hearing, you won't be able to hear the traffic if your deaf now will you.

Ahh sorry, that'll teach me to read properly

I always listen to an IPOD on my bike, not sure about distracting, I like it

I find I concentrate more when I have my 80's metal playing.

Doesn't make me ride any better though

I'm on my second set of fitted earplugs - I got them injected at the bike show at the NEC - one of the small trade stands... but I can't remember the name ( I'll go look and report back if a name helps ).

They do work well... they attenuate all sounds equally and after a while your ears 'tune up the volume' for you - so you can still hear what's going on around - but you ears are being subjected to much lower sound pressure levels.

My first set had a fair amount of 'plug' sticking out for want of a better phrase and transmitted sound directly from my lid. Second set have far less plug and don't protrude as much so solved that problem.

You will find though that a good proportion of what you hear ( especially wind noise ) is most likely being transmitted straight into your skull from your lid so it won't be a silent nirvana

I'd recommend them - as long as you don't pass out when the gloop goes in - so if your touchy about your ears, you may not like it...

    HTH,

    Keith.
