brake caliper grease

when did it become so hard to buy brake caliper grease???

I want something for brake pad pins, the pins calipers slide on (is there a special name for them?) that'll stop them corroding and seizing. Copper grease doesn't work well.

I had a tiny tube of something called "brake caliper grease" which was some sort of really expensive synthetic grease that was good. Unfortunately the brand name is illegible, as it lasted me about 10 years and all the printing wore off the tube! I can't find anything that looks like in in local bike shops, car accessrory shops or on the net...

looks the business, but only seems to come in big jars that cost about 30 quid. I suppose that's cheaper than the damage I'll suffer if I don't use anything...

Would rather get something (Permatex or similar product) in a small tube than a half pound jar!

Yamaha make their own pretty good stuff, which is odd considering the reputation their calipers have for seizing.... Expensive and comes in a small tube.

I use 'red rubber grease' on the sliders - it doesn't affect the rubber 'boots' like ordinary stuff does (make them expand) and seems to keep corrosion at bay without melting. Wemoto do it, but they don't have it on their site for some reason...

i use a big tub of industrial high temp copper grease. its not the usual coppaslip muck you can get in little tubes its more copper than grease i think, made by fuchs for the aero industry and we got a load delivered to work by mistake so i filched a tub.

I use Fuchs (Makers of Silkoline) Renolit copper paste 500g tub for all the mechanical rubbing bits.
Try Toolnweld.com for a good price. I have seen it listed as low as £6 and as high as £35 for the same tub.
For the rubbers/pistons I use Castrol Red Rubber grease 500g tub again I have seen the same wild variation in prices.

Use copper phaste for steel parts only, and use Lithium phaste for alumium high temperature applications

I have recently overhauled my front calipers and I too use the 'red rubber grease'
It is capable of withstanding high temperatures, compatible with natural and synthetic rubber & will not cause cracking or undue swelling.

if you pop along to your local commercial vehicle spares supplier you can buy tubes of rubber lube or air brake grease stays lubby and dose not affect the seals
