    U bolts

With my ram mount came a u bolt to fit to my cross bar. Can you buy these u bolts from anywhere.
I have a rack on the rear of my XR and thinking of getting a small topbox to chuck on it for work. Would this be the easy solution for fitting one???

Givi do a universal top box plate which you could mount on your rack and then the top box would be easy to remove for off roading, check out ebay

i hate these things, i think they look awful and mickey mouse. especially the RAM mount one with an inch of thread sticking up. cheap and nasty.

2minutes with a junior hacksaw and quick dress up with a file and you have got a much more elegant outcome for nowt.

I didn't use the u-bolt that came with my zumo mount, used the clutch ball thing, much nicer looking finish.

Did use it though, went to maplins and bought three more, came to about £2 including locking nuts, drilled the top of a small storm case (looks identical to pelicases) that I use as an occasional topbox - put the u-bolts through the top, locked them in position with the nuts, a clear silicone sealant applied to the outside and inside of the lid - extra bungee points on the topbox.

i know, but as "a trained professional" in the aero industry that sort of thing grips my poo.
no need for it at all, especially at the price we are made to pay, and especially as theres plenty of shiny arsed trouser wearing office types out there incapable of doing even that bit of diy and not screwing it up so they leave it as it is, and pretend its coat hooks or something.

    couldn't agree more.

I am a self (half) trained amateur and therefore more dangerous than something sharp, pointy, poisonous and heavy all at the same time but I do like tinkering and bodging and making my own solutions.
