Does it make sense to anyone that if the breather in the fuel cap is ineffective it will cause a vacuum in the tank and as such not draw fuel out of it? I had this problem last year when in Wales where it would cut out if there was less than half a tank of juice....

    Any suggestions more than welcome....
Dohh, I have heard of that, One bus three army trucks have all had tanks implode due to the suction and not enough air getting into replace the liquid.
Yet it is still one of the symptoms which gets over looked.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

Fuel tank vacuum can do this but as you say it has to be less than half a tank of petrol to happen, could it be a dodgy fuel pump (I'm assuming this Hornet has a pump).

I've seen this on CX500s. Even today if a bike won't start one of my checks is to open the fuel cap, close it and try again. That lets enough pressure in for a start, although it may cut out very quickly. Then I used to blow hard through the cap keyhole which would cure it.

no he says its a carbed model, im assuming its an early one, the 1st couple of years of hornets used slightly detuned CBR600FW engines (one of the best engines honda ever made, before sacrificing the CBR to the god of fuel injection and the devil called euro3)
