    Best single engine wear test

To get an idea of overall engine condition, if you could do just one check to an engine, what would it be?

    - Compression check
    - Spark plug colour
    - Oil level/colour/detailed analysis
    - Checking for smoke

Or any others I just haven't though of!

Its impossible to check "overall" condition with just one of those tests..

    Plugs will check fueling ,
compression test will check, well compression only ,
oil condition will check for holes and running temperature etc
smoke will check for leaking valve stems or fooked rings...

Id say the best single test would be how much power it makes on a dyno but that still wont tell you if its about to go BANG !!!

As with any engine - quiet, sweet sounding and pulls well through the revs may give an indication that it's a good 'un.

Ever ridden a Ducati / Moto Guzzi ??

They sound like a skeleton wa*nking in a biscuit tin !! I used to work in a large dealership specializing in Italian bikes.. The amount of people bringing their new bikes back saying it sounded like it was going to explode was untrue...

I was a moto guzzi dealer until I left left business in November..

I borrowed our Stelvio demo a few times.... I really really liked it. Great handling, nice power delivery etc..

    Good choice
