    Zumo Updates

My Zumo is nearly 12 months old and I have to admit that I have not updated the speed camera database* from either Garmin or from pocketgpsworld who I used to have and account with to keep my old Navman database up to speed... (sorry!!).

I know that one really needs to keep updated on a monthly basis, but my milage of late has been much reduced! Anyone using the Garmin service? Is it worth the money (30 quid, UK only) or should I divvy up and renew my £17 subs with pocketgpsworld? How easy is it to use the pocketgpsworld data on the Zumo, as the onboard existing European speed cams coverage seemed to be pretty good from Garmin?

    Steve

*Sorry, I meant of course, safety camera...

I cant speak for the garmin speed camera database but the pocketgpsworld one is, like the Curate's egg, good in parts. The fixed camera database is pretty comprehensive but the mobile one is a complete waste of time since they started giving away free subs to anyone that found a new camera. It appears that loads of people have just invented mobile sites to get a free subscription. In my home town there are literally dozens of mobile sites on the database even though L&B police only use pre approved sites (which they publish on the web). It's now pretty much useless due to the sheer volume of false alarms.

Interesting, I thought that the mob cameras were supposed to be checked first as most are in fixed locations such as you describe in yor area, albeit the vans move around. I know there were several sites I knew of that had hard standing verge areas for the vans, that were removed by PGPSW when i used my Navman a cuppla years ago. Sounds as if that part of the database needs chopping before loading on the GPS

    Re: Zumo Updates

I suppose I should add that it has been a few months since I last checked the mobile camera database as I now use a dedicated GPS speed camera thingy so things may well have changed.

I've just looked at the pocketgpsworld site and they state they now remove mobile cameras after 6 months unless they are reported again that, and the lack of mention of free subs for finding a new camera site, may well mean it might be more usable now

There are at least two fixed sites that I pass that have bee long-removed yet the Garmin does not seem to know this. Am I supposed to tell them?

    Yes!

On the Garmin site, there is a button to allow you to notify them. In theory this database should update quickly when changes are made.... or so it is said Opera is barfing on the site at present, so I am unsure of the page.
