    Fitting brand new carbs

If I was to fit brand new OEM carbs to my VFR, would they need the pilot screws set and balancing?

I would think so as they may not be set up for your particular bike.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

You set the pilots to what the manual says, then pop somewhere to have them fine tuned.

Thanks Rog I don't have them yet I'm just pondering at the moment.

But if you have the knack of reachning that bloody balance screw on the AT I'd love you to show me I have had gauges on and can tell you they are slightly out, but for the life of me I just couldn't reach that screw.

Ripped of the gauges and went for an industrial-grade sulk.

They are balanced by eye on the linkages before/whilst fitting, eneough to run properly. Balancing is just getting them to both open/shut at the same time. The pilot setting will be given as a set number of turns out from fully screwed in. The book will give you the procedure for fine tuning the pilots, but someone with a gas analyser can do it easier. Balancing would be the last part.
