    Disposing of old coolant

    Hi,

Last weekend I did a service on my RD03; oil change, plugs and coolant. I finally got around to taking the old liquids (oil and coolant) round to the recycling depot where they accepted the oil but refused to take the coolant! So where exactly do I dispose of coolant? I'm kinda loathe to pour anything that colour down the drain, but on the other hand I believe coolant is pretty much just alchohol and colouring, which means it wouldn't be a problem...

    Anybody have any suggestions?

Point 5 here ^^^ but i am sure they will charge you for it

Or mix it with creosalt (sp) and paint your fences with it, Engine oil also works mixed with creosalt..fences seem to last longer as well.

Well the garden fence does need a spray...

I was going to mix it into a batch of moonshine, but apparently people who consume it die from kidney failure and that would mean no more customers for my homebrew...

Why not ask your local garages? As pointed out in the link, anti-freeze is ethylene glycol and that is classed as hazardous waste. Any business for whom it is a waste product must have contracted uplift arrangements, retaining at least two years' waste transfer notes and a duty of care certificate from either SEPA or the Environment Agency naming the licensed uplift company.

The regulations covering domestic production are obviously different but I don't know how one disposes of it if the recycling depots don't have that facility.

    put it in the car,

if your like me the bike gets serviced with love and care at proper intervals and has cash thrown at it, but the car (especially the wifes car) is the necessary but despised spawn of beelzebub that gets treated with the contempt it deserves, so would probably be grateful for a bit of coolant less than five years old for once. but tell it it's christmas or something, or it'll expect special treats all the time.

I put mine in the bus. Oil goes to the depot as they have waste facilities.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

I stick it down the drain, but am very particular to always dispose of oil and brake fluid etc properly.
