    MOT question

The TTR needs a new MOT. Ive taken the indicators, rear footpegs, and mirrors off. Do I need to put them all back on for it to pass the mot? Trouble is, so much stuff has been moved around in the last 6 months Im not even sure where they are

Break lights, headlights, and rear light all work as they should and Ive almost new tyres on. But the other little thing I did was lob about an inch off the end of the clutch and brake levers as the knobs on the end were fouling the bushguards. Will that be ok or is that an mot failure?

    Cheers.

    Re: MOT question

I think that when it comes to indicators- If you have the switch gear on the handlebars; you must have the indicators on... But if you get rid of the switch gear, it should pass.

Mirrors are kinda similar, you don't need them, but if you have them, they cannot be cracked.

Pillion pegs are a bit of a shady area, I've heard people say that if you have a seat that can carry two people; you need the foot pegs on.

but if you fail first time, they give you two weeks to make amendments and without charging, give you a re-test.

    Re: MOT question

Tom, for bikes there are two options Mot examiners can either give you a full MOT or an Mot that only allows you to run in day light hours, this is because of some enduro bikes. mirrors and indicators are not an Mot failure, your bike must have road legal tyres AC10's, stop and tail lights, main and dipped lights, horn functioning brakes and a legal exhaust. if the ability to carry a pillion has been removed (foot pegs) then you do not need indicators. any querries go down the garage and ask to read their copy of the MOT rule book BiBLE .

    Re: MOT question

Had a similar discussion with the local MOT tester recently regarding a DR350 & indicators. His words "if the distance from the ground to the bottom of the frame under the engine is less than 38cm, then indicators are required", seeming to imply that pukka road legal enduros don't need indicators, but anything with enduro pretensions does (if they don't meet the 28cm rule).

I'd always thought that if they were fitted, they had to work, and if they weren't fitted, no worries. But I was wrong.

    Just my ramblings.

indicators it doesn't matter if the switchgear is there or not same with the mounts for mirrors and rear footpegs won't matter either just means you won't be able to carry a pillion. My xr has never had indicators or mirrors and has never failed an mot. The odometer doesn't even have to work it only has to display numbers. As the test centre cant tell if you've used the bike or in the last 12mths or not. The hand guards should be ok as the guards will stop your hands falling off the levers

Im not sure this is correct. As far as I know there is only one type of MOT and that needs very little in the way of lighting to pass. If things such as indicators and headlights are fitted, they must work. but there is no requirement to fit them. In my days of trials riding I think we needed a regulation sized numberplate, An engine kill switch. A brake light, speedo / odo and a horn (kids squeezy bulb horn did fine). This was enough to to get an MOT that looked exactly the same as the other vehicles I had.

Where the daytime bit comes in is the law and nothing to do with the MOT. If you use a vehicle without lights after dark you are committing an offence and thats when you will get charged.

    Re: MOT question

My local tester told me you don't need indicators. If the switch is there just tape over it, although I don't think you need to do this any more.

There are two types of MOT. You can get a daylight MOT if there are no lights fitted, it just means the bike must be off the road before lighting up time.
