XRV Garage..... spares and tools that you can borrow

We've been talking in Chatter about buying a number of tools and spares that people could borrow.
I'm trying to get a priority list together so that can we vote on what gets bought first.

You can vote for multiple items.

This would be very useful having tools everybody could borrow, but would people want too splash out expensive amounts of money on equiptment that may not get used very much and then you would have the issues with them coming back in the same condition they were issued and you would have to do a log of who's had what and when or if it's been returned. I know how many pounds worth i've got in the garage and it doesn't take long to get into the 4 figure's

I think it's a good idea, but not sure how it would work in practice. For example, if I wanted to borrow something, how would I get it? It would cost quite a bit to post, even small items would weigh quite a bit. If I have to come and get it, then it'll cost loads in fuel.
What ideas have others had for this?

Africa Twin: Set of front calipers

For me! I have the other bits but they would be invaluable for my summer restoration. The calipers on mine could be away being powder coated and the wheels might be useful as well depending on my plans...

There are plenty of reasons why it wouldn't work, but I think (hope) we can overcome these.

I'd like to run a trial with a couple of items. If it works we'll do more if not then we've not lost a great deal and could sell the items on again.

As I said in Chatter, the idea is to help members keep their bikes on the road.
They will need to leave a full deposit for the item anyway so the forum doesn't loose out.

I may consider a scheme for users that can't afford to leave a full deposit but that's clearly riskier.

Re: XRV Garage..... spares and tools that you can borrow

Hi Dave would it be possible to include a front race bearing puller that will fit our bikes as its one of the simple jobs to do if you have the right tool and would save a packet on garage labour.
Also we have lots of gurus on the site who between them have done practically every job thats possible on all variants of our bikes. Should we not get a half decent camera/vidio machine and record all of the usefull tips and tricks so that people have a photo/video record to refer to as lots of people want to fix/maintain there own bikes.
I know that wicki is a resource but a quality photo/video library is something that would be more use than anything else.

This is a good idea I've done most of the difficult jobs on @ and other bikes(H/bearings etc) never thought to Photo record the process .

Gonna do an @ fork oil change for Marcin's bike soon as poss, will get him to take pics..

Then again, most of the guys on this site are usually willing to go and help anyone with this sort of work or get them to bring their bike over and do it in a garage with the tools in it..

What we need is a cloning machine!

Then we just clone CHAD, point him in the right direction (or program the sat-nav) and set him off. Job done! Or it very soon will be.

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

    Yep good thoughts there Mel.
I'll add the bearing puller and also the 3 legged puller that I wanted once when trying to get the flywheel off something.

BTW we'll also have some debate on what exact make of the tool we want to buy when we decide on tools as well. I'd rather get one thing that's top quality that inferior cheap crap.
