If someone really wants your bike they are going to nick it. There is much that deters a determined thief. A big chain will put off the casual pikey, but you have to make sure you use the chain properly.... like no resting on the floor, not only just attached to your wheel etc.
A ground anchor would be good, remember the chain is only as secure as to what it is attached to. My mate had an alarm on his gs500, and to be honest it seemed a pain in the arse, it would arm it self if the bike is left without the ignition on for 5 mins, and then if you forget about that it would go into "lock down" for 24 hours meaning you couldn't do anything with the bike. I wasn't impressed to be honest, the also drain your battery, especially if you are only using the bike occasionally.
Not heard anything about tracking devices...
Nobody seems to pay much attention to alarms these days and I have read they are little deterrent to the lift it into the back of a van brigade. I seem to remember reading old refrigerated vans being used as they are well insulated and deaden the sound.
I work on the premise that if they want it they will get it so apart from not parking in dodgy areas I pretty much trust to the steering lock and HISS immobiliser [1].
[1] Unless you know where I live and in that case it's guarded by a couple of mercenaries armed to the back teeth.
I'm on the Safe House List
Only a motorcyclist truly understands why a dog puts its head out a moving car window
I have an alarmed disk lock which I use for when leaving it places other than home (where there is an anti-theft flame thrower system)... it seems pretty good but just placing my hand over the lock can really quieten the alarm.
I'd recommend Gaviscon![]()
