    Ground Anchor vs chain?

    Hi,
    With paranoia in the ascendance, poor home security of my beloved @ (d-lock) + mountain bikes (feeble cable locks) has me thinking of putting a ground anchor in my garage, (concrete floor, unable to mount on old brick walls);
on the other hand, would it be better value threading a decent chain through all the frames, up off the ground with a lock on display on the seat? I'd be nervous of calling attention by fitting anything extra on the garage door too. Fortunately I'm in a reasonably 'secure' area, but really don't want to add to the statistics.
Thanks for reading, any advice greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Rob.

A decent ground anchor is the best deterrent, I had a couple of bikes nicked while they were chained up by the culprits just lifting the whole lot into a van.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

Have you thought of a garage defender?

    SAS Garage Defender

If youve got a standard metal frame garage door that flips upwards its the dogs! The Police and a London local council trialed them in some flat garages with brilliant success ages ago, prompted me to get one, had it since as ive got the same issue as you, lots of MTB, Roadbikes and the motorbike.

One lock does them all, simple to access but hard to break.

Thing about ground anchors are that you end up chaining things to them, the chain being the weak point for serious thiefs.

Easy to install but you will need a decent drill as the cement floor needs a wide hole about 2 inches deep - nearly buggered my mates drill!

2 drill points inside the garage door area and one external - if only the external is tarmac your alright, you need at least the 2 internal points to be concrete.
TA700 2010 - Givi full set, Centre Stand, Scotoiller with LubeTube, Honda Tall Screen, Givi Crashbars, OEM Heated Grips, Fenda Extenda, Bar Risers, SSteel Spokes, Arrow Race-Tech DarkLine Exhaust, even bigger smile!!

TLD 2010 - 600 miles, 18 hours travelling, 4 hours sleep and no pint of guinness!! Must go back for that....

Thanks Stumpy + Farky; definitely having a closer look at that SAS thing - can't see any instructions / installed photos - presume the red 'blocker' goes on the outside, which may attract more attention..?

Ground anchor and MASSIVE sold secure gold chain gets my vote. If you just chain stuff together it all gets lifted into a van and they sort it out later.

Seconded. I recommend Almax and a Rhino ground anchor. If they get through them, frankly, they deserve to have the bike

Thanks for your thoughts + links, ladies & gents; I need to try a few scenarios with all items stored next to each other to find the best position for a ground anchor (that can take a chain from the @ + couple of push-bikes).

I didnt buy my anchor a m8 made it and it's solid and goes about 1.5 feet into the ground i would recommend one and a really good chain. No good having a solid anchor and a chain made out of cinder toffee.

You need a damn good lock as well. I use a squire which I'd highly recommend also....

If you do speak to Almax, you'll probably get Maxine... she's incredibly helpful ... or the husband Alex (I think that's his name).. hence AlMax !! ... they spend ages on the phone advising me of the best locks and chain combos and then gave me a hefty discount. They're not cheap ... but the quality of their stuff is second to none.
