Gone fishing - but how to carry my gear?

Happy Sunday to all,

I am wondering how to rig up a fishing tackle (and / or, pole carrier) to my bike. Has anyone done this before?

Basically, I have panniers to carry all my fishing tackle, but I have a 13ft long beach caster which folds down into 4 sections.

The beach caster isn't an easy thing to transport on a bike, so has anyone done this before and how did you do it?

PHOTOS! Would be a big help for those of you who have rigged up a fishing equipment carrier before.

the rod should only be a metre long broken down, probably not much wider than the bike with panniers?
if it wont go across the top of the panniers then strap it upright from a pillion footrest, or down the axis of the bike starting from your back backwards. it wont stick out the back much (but it will hurt if someone runs into the back of you!).
if its an expensive rod rig up a bit of drainpipe or something to carry it in, as a case, ziptied onto your bike. ive seen walking sticks carried this way.
if you think a fishing rod is a problem try a 20" carp pole!!

How long is the rod broken down, 3'3"?

I don't fish but I've carried all sorts of strange things on a bike. How about a length of 50mm waste pipe capped at the bottom, bolted/strapped to the left passenger footpeg and then the carrier next to the indicator. I'm not sure if 50mm is big enough diameter to take four sections of rod. Maybe a little "bucket" at the footpeg and a ring at the carrier?

I know it's possible to carry the pipe because that's what I did when I needed a 2 metre length. The open end went over the folded footpeg.

Does any of this make sense?

yeah,
all breaks down to short lengths. Probably could sit across the back seat or behind the top box. My only concern is that if I am not using panniers and (typical for me) forget it's on the back and as I start to weave in and out of traffic (leaving London) it gets snagged and broken.

yeah, a bit of pipe ought to do it. You mentioned attaching it to the pillion foot rest. Could do. I will try work that out. My missus likes to come along and read her mags if I am fishing so I will have to get rid of her!

ive carried a rifle and shotgun slung over my shoulder on the bike before, you get some odd looks but it works fine
