    Horn upgrade

Was stuck at traffic lights the other day on the way to work when they turned green and the taxi in front stayed put playing with his stereo to there I am the Transalp which is a bigish bike with good street presence so I beep the horn.

What a pitiful noise I've heard scooters with louder horns so to cut to the chaise any idea what DB the standard horn is and can anyone recommend a louder more suitable horn please?

Stebel magnum or if you want to go REALLY LOUD, then a Stebel Nautilus.

Available, amongst others, from Nippy Normans -

HORNS - STEBEL-NIPPY NORMANS - the No. 1 supplier of BMW motorcycle accessories!
    Brrrmm - '04 XL650V Transalp in Silver

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

I'd vote for Stebel, too, although if you aren't that into mucking about with the electrics the "Magnum" is supposed to be easier to wire up, and although it isn't quite as loud it should still be a fair bit better than the OE one.

I put a magnum on my old Ural and it works a treat. Gave the MOT tester quite a surprise

I've also had the Motrax Hootaz and the horn from a Renault Cleo or VW Golf recommended.
Must admit I'm not the most technical minded with electrics so having to wire in a relay would probably stump me.

You won't have to wire in a relay for the Stebel Magnum, just replace the original horn with the new one - just two wires.

That's all I did with mine and have had no problems.

    Re: Horn upgrade

Just had a hooter contest with my bike (Magnum) versus African Twin's (Peter) bike which has one of those red Halfords car hooters fitted. He was most impressed and says he's going to buy one.

We were very scientific about it, putting the bikes at the same angle and standing at a similar distance to both whilst the other person ran from one to the other, pressing the buttons. God knows what the neighbours thought!
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!

Grabbed one as well. My current one's been sickly after a few winters outside, and it's a bit too good at putting dents in car roofs to leave it at that.
