Aluminuim alloy protection?

Got an oil leak from a fractured generator cover on my CB500 (Second bike after the Alp!)

Someone told me if welded an no 'protective' laquer or whatever is put on it the oil will attack the alloy and cause another leak eventually.

Is this true? Has anyone ever heard of this? Is it rubbish?

Oil attacking alloy sounds like a load of cobblers to me. I've had welded cases before with no leaks - just needs to be done well with no porosity.

I had a case welded with no issues,
the inside of casings are not painted sooner or later paint would fail and cause problems internally so it would be daft to paint them unless of course they know the paint would start to come away after the warranty
