    Garmuin nuMap problem?

Anyone else purchased this upgraded map service? At first glance, it seems a real good deal at around 90 quid ...

Be warned, the download required to update your Garmin (Zumo 550 in my case) is 3gb and may well take many attempts to get onto your PC. File d/l speed is 100-120kb/sec so very S L O W!! Internet gossip suggests that it will then take many hours to transfer to your device.

You HAVE to use Internet Explorer for the download else the d/l will fail and from my experience you HAVE to use the pants Garmin download manager else the d/l will not launch. I tried the FF d/l manager, and aftermarket manager I use for MP3's etc, all with no joy. Opera was not accepted at all...

What a crock of sh***! I do hope the updated maps are worth the effort.... WHEN I have them on the machine. Oh yes, the garmin Support is almost as slow as their d/l service!

I am not impressed after spending this money and in hindsight, I would much prefer to pay for a DVD upgrade instead I think!! As long as it came it at half the nuMap price, it would be a better deal in many ways, as I cannot see me going through this crap every time I want to check and upgrade mu Euro maps!

    Moan over.....

Well, it is of all of Western Yurrup! The d/l speed is a ruddy disgrace though, mostly because of garmin being paranoid about pirating I suspect.

    hi all,
I ahve the nuvi 550 not the zumo model but does the same thing except mps .

mine and the download for free and yes its 3gb in size took 3 hours on broadband at 250kb/s using garmin download run via "mozilla" [eat grass internet explorer" the nuvi must be connected at the time.

after download it saves file to your harddrive on pc then downloads to satnav, all rather ass about face compared to my previous Navman.

The mapping is for all europe and has basic world mapping too, find it okay on bike and mountain bike as it takes into concideration one way street on cycle mode against car mode, even with off road mode its good as long as extra mapping installed.

Walking around strange citys is great with about 6 hours battery life.

I have the Tom Tom Central European maps and they are only 1650Mb.
It does take a while for them to download ( over an hour ) but I have never had a problem with them.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

    VERY ass about face

I could not get it to deal with Mozilla FF at all over 3-4 attempts BB speed topped at 110kb/s, though I do wonder if there has just been an update and zillions are logging on for an upgrade at the same time??

easier to get the CD from garmin in stead of downloading, then you have a copy if your computer goes tits up.
i found the new maps are totally different in style to older ones, mine were about 3 yrs old and i changed this year
