Does anyone know whether bluetooth enabled satnavs can communicate directly with bluetooth earpieces directly for turn by turn instructions ?

My zumo pairs with my phone headset ok.
thanks.
I was planning on buying a car satnav for the bike but don't particularly want/need to involve my mobile in the set-up. I would prefer a tomtom or garmin car satnav but the newer models don't seem to have a headphone socket hence the question about bluetooth.
Im not sure if you paired a bluetooth headset you would get the voice directions i tried this with my tomtom 520 and it does not work

Yes both TomTom and Garmin devices should work fine with a BlueTooth headset. The Scala Rider is pretty good. Not sure what other head sets are out there nowadays.
Stubbow, maybe there's a setting on your GPS that you need to alter. (For example, my Zumo gives me the option to send through only phone or phone+sat nav+music.)

There is a fine line between numerator and denominator.

deskjet are you thinking of putting a normal phone bluetooth headset inside your lid or getting a external lid mounted bluetooth?
I pair my zumo to a cardo scala on the bike, and to my phones headset in the car.
I'm only wondering because we had our latest emergency responder first aid session today, and it was brought up that some paramedics have encountered bikers who've placed phone headsets inside their lids, then had an off and it's made it more difficult to get the lid off safely when it's necessary to get an airway open.
Peteh, I don't have satnav or earpiece yet as I didnt know if it would work as I hoped (i.e. voice directions from satnav direct to earpiece), but I will take on your good point about safety. External mounting sounds the better option even if it is more expensive. Thanks.
i work in a motorcycle clothing retailers and im afraid that in ALL car cases the motorcycle headsets dont work with a car sat nav, only ones made for bikes i.e tom tom rider, garmin zumo etc, this is due to the fact that a motorcycle bluetooth headset/sat navs use a totally different connecting system incorparating speech and voice communication, whislt for some reason the car ones dont.
There may be one of two out there that do work with either type of headset or visa-versa but in 4 years i havent found one.
to be honest buying the tom tom rider 2 is a good idea, theyre only £350-£399 and you get a £120 scala rider headset with them!!! as well as full europe maps!!
hope this helps
