    Led lights

Hi guys, Im looking at adding extra lights to my XR250R uk model no battery, LED lights seem the way to go as they draw very little power.
At the moment Ive got a couple of head torches tie wrapped to two small box section tubes to the headlight surround, now these little things throw out enough light to ride on, bearing in mind 90% of my commute is on unlit country roads with a couple of lanes thrown in if the fancy takes me.
What I would dearly love is some form of LED lights that throw a spot beam, (like car spot lights) so they project further than the 35watt headlight.
Having looked on the web and various publications I would be looking at a minimum spend of atleast £200 and I would have to carry a battery to power these!!.
Does anyone know of a way to get a type of spot beam LED light on a 12v power supply? could I wire these into my lighting circuit without any add ons such as resistors etc.
I,m quite happy to make up the casings and hardware for these, I would like to know if you can do what I have put down above, cheers all, time for the sparkys to start head scratching.

You can get them from a site called bikeviz.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

    Re: Led lights

Bikeviz won't work, they're not bright enough. PM me your number, I'll give you a phone call sometime (sat?), this is my area of expertise. What you describe is possible, there are 2 main ways of doing it and it can be done nicely with £200. Alternatively you could get something made to just bolt on, I can hook you up with a guy who does very good work, it all depends on how stable your supply voltage is. I was considering doing a run of LED lighting solutions for quad bikes which would have suited this perfectly, but unfortunately the outlay needed to get it up and running and the (lack of) demand meant that it was too much of a risk for me. Wiring into the existing supply without resistors or current controllers will be near impossible due to the nature of automotive systems and the nature of LED's (automotive systems change in voltage quite a lot with RPMs, LED's react a lot to even a small voltage change), so extra circuitry will be needed. (bikevis get around needing extra circuitry by being dim, if you want something bright then you will need circuitry). The good news is that even the simplest and cheapest system will be easily enough to beat a 35W halogen; I suspect you'll be gobsmacked by the amount of light a slightly more complex system could put out. That said, it all depends on what you want; the system I designed for quads would happily rival a 100W halogen setup, but if you want you could get a system drawing about 10W that gives a very good amount of light (not enough to ride fast fast, mind), or a system drawing ~18W that can outdo a 35W halogen without issues and only lag slightly behind a "normal" motorbikes lights. Given what you say, I'd recommend the final option, but if you want more it's there!!

The only problem with LED's is the extremely high surface brightness may dazzle oncoming drivers. Also, cutoffs are pretty tricky to do with LED's for the low beam.
