    sigg fuel bottle or not?

    hi all,
    just a heads up really:

Recently bought a "sigg fuel bottle" from
    Overland-Solutions.com: Rally & Overland Fabrications

they say and advertise them as fuel bottles but as sigg stopped makeing/marketing them years ago I am not to sure on their proposed use, I think they are selling water bottles as fuel, tut ,tut

Have asked sigg for comformation as would hate to have a leak on the bike and worse still have the bottle explode.

    becarefull out their.

    Russ

you can buy "fuel" seals for Sigg bottles so perhaps the bottle's the same but the seal needs to be petrol resistant, failing that MSR and other such manufacturers use there own brands of "sigg" bottles for fuel on the're
presurised petrol/paraffin stoves, I v'e certanly used SIGG bottles with fuel grade seals for years without a problem, including having them sat in the sunlight in Spain in August.
    cheers
Of course if I'm wrong please let me know before I blow myself up.

According to this post (from someone who works for SIGG in the US) SIGG bottles are not suitable for use as fuel bottles.

    yeh read that too alan,
thats what made me think they`ve sold me a waterbottle not a fuel as stated on their invoice.

still we`ll find out this weekend wether it leaks or not must remeber to keep it upright in pannier.
just incase i`m lurking on one on flea bay near to me, or could just get new fuel seal as stuart suggested

Re: sigg fuel bottle or not?

From the post it sounded like it was not usable for fuel because the bottle has a lining rather than it being just a seal issue. The last thing you need is bits clogging up your fuel filter when you're miles from anywhere and on your last litre of fuel.

Re: sigg fuel bottle or not?

I think its all to down to health & safety over conciousness although I have read somewhere that the paint or lacquer used on the inside is no longer fuel proof

I've got a sigg bottle, took it out of service this summer though cos the seal has finally perished after 8 years
I'll be ordering new seals soon though

Re: sigg fuel bottle or not?

I appreciate the thread was about Sigg but Trangia do fuel bottles for their stoves, they are very strong plastic with a pourer / nozzle. Now I come to think of it MSR do fuel bottles to, and Primus for that matter.

trangia also do metal bottles to go with the multifuel converter they do now (pressurized)
i think its a re-branded MSR, like the burner.
