Black barrels are certainly an option. In fact, I think if I`m going to spray them then the only option is the `Model T` oneThere is a "cylinder black" paint that is a satin black finish. The black colour increases heat transfer more than the insulating effect of a layer of paintNeed as much heat transfer as possible, got some serious miles planned when she finally fires up again.
Just imagining what the mill will look like with black barrels now....will it look the part, won`t it look the part...........![]()
Might go down the black route, looks ok on the FMX
What about clear lacquer?
Any recommendations?
The cylinder black needs no lacquer as it is supposed to be a satin finish.
If you meant for the other parts of the bike, any 2 pack COB (clear over base) will do.
You can pay a lot for it, or you can get it from somewhere like Autopaint (where i used to work) for about a tenner a litre, with thinners about a fiver and activator the same.
All 2 pack paints (as in paint + activator) are quite dangerous to your health so masks, gloves, goggles, spray suits please. (you are supposed to use a forced air mask with air fed from a compressor outside the workshop...otherwise..)
If that is beyond your means then a single pack lacquer can be had, the finish is slightly below 2 pack but it murders it for ease of use.
Nip along to your local paint shop and ask them what they use.
