    Help! Snapped Givi Key

OK, my fault as I obviously didn't foresee this in time and read the appropriate threads.

Anyway, I now have a Givi pannier with a snapped off key in the lock - unfortunately the pannier is locked shut (fortunately with nothing in it) and also locked onto the bike.

So the question is, how do I remove the pannier, open it (or vice versa) and get the remains of the key out? Will brute force and ignorance (I can do plenty of the ignorance bit) do the trick, or is there a fancy technique using a particular screwdriver, widget, and to be performed whilst standing on one leg?

And why do they insist on supplying keys made out of finest quality cheesium?

    Bl**dy annoying, that's what it is !

Oh, by the way, Happy New Year to one and all!
Transalp 700, heated grips, SW Motech crash bars, Barkbusters, centre stand, short@rse seat, Vario screen, Givi E21s, CR85 folding gear lever, Trax top box.

The beatings will continue until morale improves...

I had mine broke into a couple of years ago and a new lock barrel for the box which was an E45 box from my givi dealer was £12. I would check with them first but if it is that cheap either try a magnet to hook it out(maybe) or just drill it out and replace the locks, or a very large screwdriver and force the lock to turn. Shouldn't be to difficult the theives managed mine easy enough

a magnet wont work, they are chrome plated brass keys.

i would try and podge it up with a couple of thin but sharp implements like toothpicks or scribers, if not then i would go for the lock drilling out. dont try and force the box open, the locks cost peanuts but the box doesnt!
you can get matched sets of 2 or 3 locks cheap

Just use the other half of the key to open the lock. Once its open you can remove the barrel from the underside.

If the end of the key has not dropped too far then it may be possible to use the rest of the key to open the lock, then you could remove it and replace with a new set.

I was a bit slow typing that as I was handling one of the snakes.
