    Quick Brakehose Q

Can Goodridge braided lines be shortened without sending 'em back to Goodridge? My rear line wants to be about 2.5" shorter, and I don't know if I CBA to wait any longer (haven't ridden my bike in over 2 months ). Is this something a local garage could do for a few beer tokens?

if your hoses are made with swaged fittings on the end and want them again then no... you need a special tool to do it and not a lot of places have one (we deal with Goodrige direct and we retail Goodridge hose/parts).

If your hoses have 3 part compression ends then yes and yes!.. you could do it yourself even with a few basic tools and a couple of inexpensive parts.

Thanks Jenna. My visual memory is a bit suspect, but I reckon they'll be the swaged variety (ordered from an eBay reseller recommended on this forum - that'll teach me). So...I guess they'll need to go back.

well you could cut the swaged end off and fit a 3 piece compression end if you wanted (it would mean you the exact length you want as you cut and fit these with pipe on the bike to get the length right)...

let me know what the end is size and type (banjo ring/ male convex/ male concave etc) and i can point you in the right direction.

Any centre that deals with Hydraulic hoses will be able to do it for you however if you tell them it's a brake hose most will be reluctant to do it as if you have an accident they could be liable.

You could always tell them its off a lawn mover or something

Thanks both. I'll see what the reseller says first. If it's only going to be a week or so to send it off and get it shortened, i'll live with it and carry on taking the train to work. This has been an epic though - I ordered them at the end of November!

What's wrong with the old hose? I recently moved to braided, and I've got the old hose from an 03 650 alp hanging around (yours for a fiver) if that helps?

Thanks Jarl, but it's sorted now. Ebay seller had messaged me to say that hose was being remade by Goodridge, but for some reason I didn't receive the message. The new hose should be with me in a few days.
