Yes it is. But like any system it's not infallible. The original HISS lost its Thatcham approval, not because it was crap but because it could be easily disabled with the correct parts. The HISS 2 that's fitted now is electrically identical but is better protected from tampering.

There is a retrofit available to convert HISS 1 to HISS 2 but for obvious reasons it's time consuming and expensive to fit.

Will mine be a HISS 1 or 2? - its a 2009 TA. There's nothing to say which on the warning stickers.

    Cheers for all the info!

It will be HISS 2. If I remember it was around 2004-6 that, depending on model, things were changed. As I said they are exactly the same electrically. They just made it harder without more of a stripdown to access the necessary bits involved.

just measure the width and length that will fit under your seat, i found the honda lock was not particularly good and was a lot smaller than would fit in there anyway, and on the luggage rack, so i bought my own, as big as possible.
mines an abus granit, bought from a bicycle shop. it was a load cheaper than from a motorcycle shop. its still 12mm bar, locks at both ends and is thatcham approved, the bicycle brigade take security at least as seriously as us, thay have to- their steeds dont even come with ignition or steering locks.
