    Re: ciggie socket jump leads

Don't use a cigar lighter socket to jump start - it will end in tears. The only way to jump start a vehicle is to connect the healthy car/bike/battery direct to the sick car/bike - positive (red) to positive and negative (black) to negative (or a suitable earth point).

You could rig up a special socket using battery lead cable connected direct to the battery with a suitably rated connector on the other end or just put in an easy to reach place (insulated and not touching each other obviously!!).

    2000 Suzuki DRZ400S - "Ol' Yella" - very bright
    2011 Peugeot V-Clic 50cc - "Scoot" - It's my wife's, an enjoyable ride.

    I have a house , but I can't guarantee it's safe !!

Bloody hell jump leads? Push the bloody thing!

Shak.... I can't belive that yet again I'm helping you with advise on a mod you want to sort out, that I have already done to mine....

Are you sure you haven't secretly been up north and seen my bike...

Any way... the easiest way I found to do what you want is to buy these:

Optimate AccuMate Alligator battery clips TM74 on eBay (end time 25-Feb-10 19:44:59 GMT)

    &

OPTIMATE Accumate 12V Waterproof Charger Connector Lead on eBay (end time 04-Mar-10 10:27:11 GMT)

And depending on how far away the car/bike is that you want a jump from is, you could also get this:

OPTIMATE Accumate 12V 2.5mtr Charger Extension Lead on eBay (end time 04-Mar-10 10:27:14 GMT)

What I do is have the connector lead fixed to the battery, and then it is just tucked up behind the side panel, with the loop from the cover on the connector hooked onto one of the bolts from the bracket holding the battery in place. This is then available for any of the accessories that can be bought to be plugged into it, and it's just tucked away when not in use. When you need a jump start you simply plug in the jump lead bit and connect to another battery via the clips, and voila... one jump start done without having to remove any panels. Then you simply unplug the lead, put it in your top box/under seat area/pocket, tuck the connector lead away, and off you go. Sorted

    Hope this helps

2x 3' long leads with medium sized croc clips really dont take up much room, do they? you could get two bikes closer together than that even.

Completely agree... was much easier when I had my iccle 125 with a button start and a kick start backup... although the force required to kick over a 600cc+ bike these days would probably snap your leg if your foot slipped off and the kick lever sprung back up and hit your leg... did this few times on my TS 125 and it bloody hurt when it cracked the rear of your calf or knee... or you foot went the other way off and the lever would slap you shin on the way back up...

So thinking about that, might just stick to the jump lead option for now...

Thanks for all your ideas and experiences.

I've manage to source some cheap jump leads and will just fit some smaller croc clips onto the bike pos terminal end.

Might find a little bag to roll them up and fit between below my rear rack plate (whilst this bout of paranoia remains) if I don't catch Lola with the revs the first time she sparks into life thats it (I did have a go at bumping but my rear is still a little new so wasn't getting the friction/traction, then thought why bother theres a spare batt in the garage, and never had a prob on my return journey)

I believe my batt is in reasonable nick, and levels etc all fine (topped up by a very low/slow solar charger through an assessory socket)
I think it's todo with my still slightly blowy slip on, as this issue has arrived with it's instalation (could be coincidence but who believes in those)

and Titch if we ever do meet, we will have to compare notes (or I'll take them at any rate)

This thread really puzzles me. You've been trying to solve the problem of how to jump-start the bike, how to build in a socket, how to carry leads. Shouldn't you be trying to solve why the bike needs a jump start in the first place? I've had electric start bikes for decades and never needed a jump start. Fix that problem and the other problems disappear.
