Oil suction pump?

Having just fitted crash bars and sump guard to my TA I now realise that to change the oil that will be two more things to remove to get to the sump plug. Does anyone use one of those suction pumps that garages use? I have in the past scoffed at their use as I'm sure it's not as good as draining from the plug which must have more chance off getting rid of any sludge/particles etc. Any thoughts?

bore a 1" hole through the sump guard over the plug so you can get a socket through. (obviously only if its practical, they seem to delight in putting oil plugs and filters in awkward places)

dont know if the suction thing would work, dont see why not as long as you could ensure the tube went right to the bottom of the sump

Yes, I think that is the easiest way. It will be messy as I think the original plastic guard will still be in the way so the oil will sit on it but I suppose it will soon drain away. Its a home made guard so I should really have done it when I made it!!
