Are we about to go 'Back to the Future'?

Just been looking at the Lotus Omnivore two stroke engine. The prototyoe is already 10% more fuel efficient than the most economical four stroke engine around. To see it working go to Google search. Lotus Omnivore engine. Click on (flash) Animation Lotus Omnivore Engine and see for yourselves. After you start it up you can alter rpm / engine load and petrol / alcohol mix and... well WOW its going to be big in say 10 yrs time.

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

Certainly not a conventional 2 stroke and some similarities to a diesel 2 stroke. Doesn't say how it will be lubricated though so probably same as a conventional 4 stroke which means no nice exhaust or clouds of blue smoke on a cold start.

Re: Are we about to go 'Back to the Future'?

One of the benefits of going back to 2-strokes was supposed to be the lower number of precision machined parts and hence lower cost, weight etc etc.

Not sure about this version of the venerable 2-stroke. There's plenty in there that would need fairly precise, and therefore expensive, machining.

    Maybe I'm missing something?

More power for a smaller engine size at a guess. Looks good though, I'd love to do micro-controller design for this sort of stuff
