MOT due exactly 3 years after the registration date. There is no grace period

If you aren't going to get it done on time and assuming the tax runs out at the same time then you have to SORN it to avoid a fine.

You can do it online at the DVLA website DVLA Vehicle Licensing Online | Home

Can you have tax but not MOT without being fined?

    Re: M.O.T

If your bike is off the road - ie in the garage etc and it has a current tax disc then there is no requirement to have it MOTd. BUT if it got stolen etc then the insurance company would probably value it as a bike without MOT - in other words very low.

If the tax runs out you need to SORN it

Also when you get back you are only allowed to ride it to the MOT station y the shortest convenient route as long as it is booked in previously - may sure they have the reg no. recorded.
