Metal mule vs touratech pannier loops

I have some MM panniers that I may need to fit to another bike. Does anyone know if the loop dimensions and the size of tubing is the same for TT and MM.

The MM method of pannier attachment can cope with only small variances in size.

Quote from the MM web site: "Constructed using 18mm mild-steel tube which has 2mm wall thickness."

and a quote from the TT website: Robust steel pannier frame made from 18 mm diameter steel tube with a 2 mm thick wall. Black plastic coated. env. 53 cm width". I don't know what that last bit means.

53cm width seems a lot so it must be the diagonal like you measure a TV

why are you looking any way if you need new hoops get the MM or have a metal smith knock you some up

Wife is probably getting a TA 700 soon. MM pannier frames are £300, TT frames are £200 and do ocassionally come up second hand.

Makes sense, might need to try on A**R****. Every one here with TT hoops seem to be on the road or asleep

Hi phil, thanks and a good idea. I would but can't get them down to you as the TA is off the road needing the calipers fixed. I suppose I could bungee one onto the back of the vara. I will let you know tonight.

Austin have you considered the Holan ones, available from RedCap over on UKGSers, £165.00 the pair, seem like a cheaper alternative.

Thanks for the tip. I will have a look.

I have just got back from PUSDs. In case anyone else ever needs to know this the Touratech loop is exactly the same size a. The metal mule pannier loop but one of the mounting brackets on the TT loop fouls the mounting on the MM pannier. However it should be easy enough to move the pannier mounting to clear the bracket.

So the short answer is yes it will with a bit of bodgery.
